The purpose of caster plating:

Caster electroplating serves the purpose of modifying the surface properties or dimensions of the base material by applying a metal coating. The electroplating process used for universal wheels, predominantly utilizing corrosion-resistant metals, offers several benefits. It enhances the metal's ability to resist corrosion, increases its hardness, prevents wear and tear, improves conductivity and lubrication, enhances heat resistance, and adds aesthetic appeal to the surface. This electroplating method not only changes the base material's surface properties but also augments its overall performance and durability.

The role of caster plating:

Electroplating is a cutting-edge technology that employs electrolysis to append metal coatings having different properties and substrate materials onto mechanical products. The electroplating process produces a uniform layer that is relatively thinner than the hot dip layer, measuring from several microns to tens of microns. By utilizing electroplating on casters, one can obtain decorative, protective, and various functional surface layers for mechanical products, also repairing workpieces that have undergone wear and machining errors.

 


The coatings used in caster electroplating are mainly composed of single metals or alloys. These can include materials like titanium target, zinc, cadmium, gold, as well as brass and bronze alloys. Additionally, there are coatings that consist of dispersed layers, such as nickel-silicon carbide and nickel-fluorinated graphite. Some coatings also involve cladding layers, such as steel copper-nickel-chromium layered on steel or silver-indium layered on steel.

 

It is worth mentioning that the base materials for caster electroplating are not limited to iron-based cast iron, steel, and stainless steel. Non-ferrous metals like ABS plastic, polypropylene, polysulfone, and phenolic plastic can also serve as base materials. However, electroplating on plastic casters requires specific activation and sensitization treatments before the process can take place. These treatments ensure proper adhesion and effectiveness of the electroplated coating on the plastic surface.
